Sunday
It's a perfect Sunday. I'm sick, but other than that it's ideal. Oh, and I'm on call. But great otherwise.
If you want, I can come up with a clever moniker for you, too.
It's a perfect Sunday. I'm sick, but other than that it's ideal. Oh, and I'm on call. But great otherwise.
Once a year R goes on a mancation to see some of his buds. This year it was this weekend.
I don't know where to start. The day and a half sans AB and R was... wonderful. A great break. What did I do? Nothing. At all. There was Chipotle. I slept very well without either monkey to wake me. That's about it.
AB and I had a great day yesterday going to the park, store, and getting take-out. She was so very patient with me this morning, even allowed for a brisk walk. She helped me get the house picked up for family coming over. When family got here she got very riled up and had to have two time-outs, one of which she actually screamed through most of (hello, no nap/rest).
So naturally when it was bedtime she was very sweet... and asleep in about four minutes.
R comes back tomorrow.
I'd like to come up with a clever closing line but I'm too exhausted. It was wonderful.
A helicopter takes off from a hospital rooftop, either carrying an emergent patient to a differently staffed or stocked hospital, or on its way to gather up one and bring him or her back.
People look up, they imagine, they worry. Someone, somewhere is so critically injured that moments will count. An ambulance would be too slow. Which of the onlookers considers that person, who says a quick prayer to their deity of choice?
Someone looks up and says to herself; what a country we live in that such a thing exists. She smiles.
Hoping the chopper's intended lasted long enough to see the blades whirl toward him or her, and feel the power of man's kindness to man.
There are no miracles. There is science and technology.
Due to some strange scheduling and camping trips that were later cancelled, AB went to her grandmother's on Thursday. Today is Saturday.
We miss her, but oh man.
It's been so relaxing.
Doing whatever the fuck we want to do. Dinner out. Errands. Movie tonight.
It was, and is, wonderful, though we miss her dearly. Her grandmother reported that she was unbelievably bad the first day and the visit was nearly cut short.
So, here's an amusing story.
R and I are not religious. At all. We are extremely tolerant of all religions/creeds/beliefs (we think) as long as they're not imposing on us or ours.
R's Aunt bought AB a pink baby bible when she was born. AB found it sometime in the past few months. She loved it. Loved the pink leather binding. Loved that her name was inscribed on it. Loved the thin pages with their gold lining.
One day she asked me to read it to her. I started at the beginning. Genesis 1:1. I struggled through the archaic language and pointless repetition, she quickly became bored and we were done with that.
Now, she sleeps with it.
Oh, the irony.
And tomorrow, tomorrow. She goes to church for the first time with R's family. I can't wait to talk to her about it.
It has begun.
Ramen.
R and I walked up to AB's school to pick her up. We walked to dinner. We walked home.
That sounds pretty mundane. Let me elaborate a little.
Listening to her talk about her day as we take in the fresh air and sunshine.
Watching R and AB hold hands as she walks on the stone fence.
She is taller than he is on the stone fence, and she leans over him for a tiny kiss, the sun shining through her golden hair.
Then there is the tiring and painful part where I carried her on my shoulders for far longer than I wanted to. It was fun.
How was your day?
Saturday at the party AB climbed the rock wall. She didn't get far, but she showed no fear, not one iota, bravely clambered up that bastard like the monkey she is. Want a pic? Here you go.
It was a fun day. I pranked a co-worker, pranked R, and went bowling for a work outing thing. Saw a man/boy/unknown wearing a wife beater. Bowling. He was a good bowler. The kind of person you do not want your daughter bringing home, no offense to any rednecks who might be reading this.
Wait, what do I care? In 12 years you fuckers better stay away from my daughter!
Oh yeah, and I'm pregnant.
Have a good one!
